Summary

The Department of Defense (DoD) SpouseWorks program is designed to address the unique employment challenges faced by military spouses, including frequent relocations, employment and skill gaps, and barriers related to licensing and credentialing. 

SpouseWorks helps military spouses turn career goals into reality by providing access to education, expert guidance and employment opportunities. Through partnerships and direct support, spouses can build skills, navigate career shifts and find work that moves with them.

The DoD SpouseWorks program is leading the way for programs, policies, and partnerships that empower military spouses to grow skills, get career advice, and find jobs. The SpouseWorks Career Coaching Support, SpouseWorks Scholarship, Military Spouse Employer Partnership (MSEP), and SpouseWorks Fellowship are all within the SpouseWorks umbrella.

SpouseWorks Career Coaching Support
Career coaches provide expert guidance to help you navigate your career goals. They offer helpful resources, personalized support and practical ideas to help you turn your education, training and skills into meaningful career opportunities. Coaches can help you:

  • Set career goals: Clarify career goals through expert advice
  • Develop and improve your resume: Unlimited resume and cover letter reviews
  • Grow your skills: Explore education and skill building opportunities
  • Be a job search superstar: Maximize your job search with concierge connections to employers
  • Prep for the interview: Get personalized feedback on your interview style
  • Build your business: Explore the skills and training needed to be a business owner.

Career coaches are highly qualified, full-time professionals trained to help you navigate your goals. Many are military spouses themselves. Each career coach has at least a master’s degree, years of experience and holds one or more of the following certifications:

  • Certified Workforce Development Professional (from the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals)
  • National Certified Counselor (from the National Board of Certified Counselors)
  • Certified Career Counselor (from the National Career Development Association)
  • Global Career Development Facilitator (from the National Career Development Association)

SpouseWorks Career Coaching Eligibility: Career Coaching Eligibility is dependent on the coaching package selected. Please review the available Career Coaching Packages.

SpouseWorks Scholarship

The SpouseWorks Scholarship (formerly MyCAA) is a workforce development program that provides eligible military spouses with up to $4,000 (up to $2,000 per fiscal year) in financial assistance for the pursuit of a license, certification or associate degree or for continuing education courses to maintain a license or certification necessary for employment.

SpouseWorks Scholarship Eligibility: Spouses of active-duty service members and spouses of National Guard and reserve service members on Title 10 orders in pay grades E-1 through E-9, W-1 through W-3 and O-1 through O-3. You can continue your approved education and training plan if your sponsor is promoted. Spouses who have completed high school or obtained a GED.

Military Spouse Employer Partnership (MSEP)

The Military Spouse Employer Partnership is a targeted recruitment and employment solution for spouses and companies that:

  • Connects corporate and non-profit organizations with military spouses representing ALL Military Services.
  • Provides human resource managers with recruitment solutions - military spouses.
  • Prepares military spouses to become competitive, "job ready" applicants.
  • Connects military spouses with employers seeking the essential 21st century workforce skills and attributes they possess.

MSEP Eligibility: Spouses of active-duty, National Guard and Reserve Component military members. Spouses of military members separated from active duty, National Guard and Reserve Components for less than 365 days. Surviving spouses of military members who died while on active duty.

SpouseWorks Fellowship

Military spouses have an opportunity to jump-start their career with 12-week paid fellowships through the SpouseWorks Fellowship (formerly the Career Accelerator). The initiative places eligible spouses with employers across industries throughout the country. It’s designed to lead to long-term employment through hands-on experience, professional mentorship and tailored career support.

The SpouseWorks Fellowship offers:

  • Hands-on experience. Work alongside host employers full time, Monday-Friday, for 12 weeks.
  • Personalized career coaching. Every fellow is matched with a SpouseWorks (formerly SECO) career coach who provides individualized development and a tailored career plan.

SpouseWorks Fellowship Eligibility: Career-ready spouses of members of the Air Force and Space Force, including active, reserve and National Guard components, are eligible to apply for the fellowship. Applicants are placed based on education level, previous work experience and host employer needs.
